Behind the Screen
Kangaroo: From Development to Cinema
Join us for an in-depth exploration of the hit family film Kangaroo, which became the number one Australian film at the box office in 2025 and the highest-grossing Australian film in Germany in the past 25 years. Kangaroo is a heart-warming family comedy from Cultivator Films, produced in association with Brindle Films and Bunya Productions, and distributed by STUDIOCANAL.
Inspired by the life of Chris “Brolga” Barns, founder of the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs, this session traces the creative, technical, and logistical journey of bringing the film to the screen. From development through production, post-production, and release, the discussion will unpack the collaboration required to create a film that resonates with audiences in Australia and internationally.
The panel will also explore how Screen Territory and Tourism NT work together to maximise screen impact through location marketing, strategic partnerships, and set-jetting, driving audience amplification and tourism awareness alongside the film’s box-office success.
