Jonathan Hairman

Jonathan has close to 30 years’ experience in visual effects working in Australia, Europe and the United States.
Stage23 was launched in 2017 with Christian Debney after the duo met on the set of Stephan Elliot’s Flammable Children where Jonathan was VFX supervisor and Christian was 2nd Unit director. Stage23 has evolved to be one Australia’s leading independent VFX companies working for major studios such as Universal, Sony, Amazon, Netflix, Studio Canal and Peacock as well as independent production companies such as Causeway, See-Saw and Altitude.

Jonathan honed his craft supervising the VFX on global brand campaigns throughout the 2000’s and whilst based in Framestore London he worked for the top commercial directors of the time including Jonathan Glazier, Tom Hooper, Frank Budgen, Martin Krejci and Jonas Akerlund.

On returning to Sydney in 2012 Jonathan turned to long form, supervising multiple features and TV series. Credit highlights include, VFX supervisor on David Gordon Green and Sandra Bullock’s Our Brand is Crisis (2015), HBO’s _Vice Principals _SE2, The New Boy for Warwick Thorton which won the Golden Frog for its cinematography (including the invisible VFX), Dev Patel’s _Monkeyman _(for Stage23), _The End _(for Stage23) and The Royal Hotel for See-Saw pictures, _Three Thousand Years of Longing _(for Stage23) directed by George Miller and Amazon Studio's Class of ‘07 as show supervisor. In 2025 Jonathan served as VFX supervisor on Studio Canal’s feature film Kangaroo, filmed in Alice Springs and featuring industry leading photo real CG Kangaroo effects and rendering.
