Richard Finlayson

Richard is a Director and Joint CEO of Wooden Horse, co-founding the company in 2019 after a 25-year career in television, spanning both production and executive roles. Richard was the Director of Television at the ABC between 2012 and 2017, where he commissioned acclaimed dramas and comedies such ‘Glitch’ (NBC, Netflix co-production), ‘Nowhere Boys’ (International Emmy winner from Matchbox/NBC), ‘Cleverman’ (Goalpost Pictures and Sundance/AMC), ‘Rosehaven’ (Guesswork Television) and ‘Utopia’ (Working Dog). Prior to the ABC, Richard was the Chief Operating Officer at public broadcaster SBS.


Richard produced feature documentaries ‘The Cape’ for Stan and ‘Rose Gold’ for the ABC and Madman Entertainment, Director Matthew Adekponya’s feature debut about the Australian Men's Basketball team and what it took to build a team culture capable of winning a history-making Olympic medal. Richard also co-produced Benjamin Law’s two-part documentary series ‘Waltzing the Dragon’ for the ABC, in partnership with WildBear Entertainment.  


As Executive Producer, Richard served on award-winning drama series ‘The Clearing’ for Disney+ globally, and the reimagining of ‘Mother and Son’ for the ABC. Richard also worked with Marc Fennell to develop factual series ‘Stuff the British Stole’ for ABC and CBC in Canada, partnering with WildBear Entertainment as Executive Producer.
