Meg Washington
Meg Washington is a recording artist, songwriter and composer for screen and stage. More recently, she has also become a screenwriter and film producer. Meg is a platinum-selling and ARIA award winning musician with an extensive catalogue, ranging across musical styles from jazz to radio pop to musical theatre. Under their production company, Speech & Drama Pictures, Meg and artistic partner Nick Waterman have co-written a screenplay adaptation of How to Make Gravy, based on the iconic Paul Kelly song. They co-produced the film with Academy-Award nominated producer Schuyler Weiss and Warner Bros Australia. The film features three original songs composed by Meg.
Meg also wrote the songs and co-wrote the story for the new feature film musical, The Deb, directed by Rebel Wilson for her production company, in conjunction with Unigram and AI. Meg composed the music for Fisk seasons 2 and 3, co-created by and starring Kitty Flanagan, for Porchlight Films and the ABC. For her work on season 2, she was nominated for the 2024 AACTA Award for Best Original Score in Television, along with Daniel O’Brien. As an actor, Meg is the voice of Calypso on the popular children’s TV show Bluey.
For the stage, Meg is currently under commission from Opera Queensland to write a new opera based on the Georgia Blain novel Between a Wolf and a Dog. She has composed the music for a number of screen projects including Warwick Thornton’s The Beach, David Wenham’s Ellipsis (2017) and Shannon Murphy’s Eaglehawk (2016). In 2014, Meg delivered a TEDx talk about living with a stutter, yet being able to fluently sing. Her talk was selected by TED for its global platform, and has been viewed over 2 million times.
