Executive
Maree Cochrane
As the inaugural Executive Director of Sustainable Screens Australia (SSA), Maree Cochrane is leading a transformation that recognises something undeniable: the future of Australian screen content depends on protecting the environments where our stories come to life.
Drawing on more than a decade of production experience and a decade of behavioural and systems change expertise, Maree is guiding the sector as it confronts the 16.6 tonnes of carbon emissions generated from each hour of content produced.
Her collaborative leadership has established SSA as a unifying industry force, bringing competitors together to share global innovations and local learnings. She manages strategic partnerships with leading commissioners and production companies including Netflix, BBC Studios, SBS, Stan, ITV and Screen Australia, and SSA's groundbreaking international partnership with BAFTA albert.
She studied film and television at Griffith University and gained a fellowship with the Centre of Sustainability Leadership where she later became guide to the next generation of sustainability leaders as Co-facilitator. Before joining SSA, she worked with behavioural scientists as lead for the Innovation Network, a 17,000-member education platform addressing systems change within the Victorian government.
Maree now lives and works where she was raised, on the lands of the Bundjalung people.
