Writer
Jack Roney
After 33 years as a police officer, Jack Roney handed in his badge and gun to focus on being a fulltime crime fiction author. His novels are inspired by first-hand experience as a patrol officer, detective, strategic policy officer, media and communications officer, operational skills/firearms instructor and police academy facilitator.
Jack draws on these experiences to bring authenticity and realism to his writing and to immerse the reader in fast-paced, gritty and emotionally charged stories. An early edition of his first crime novel was shortlisted in the Watpad Awards. Jack completed the Queensland Writers Centre Fishbowl Residency and was runner-up in the Hawkeye Manuscript Development Award for his historical mystery ‘The Ghost Train & the Scarlet Moon’. His 3-novel Detective Jarrod O’Connor series is inspired by his own experiences as a child protection detective.
His short stories have also been published. Jack delivers ‘Writing Authentic Crime Fiction’ workshops, endorsed by the Australian Society of Authors and Queensland Libraries and has been a panelist at various writers festivals. He was a guest on ‘I Catch Killers’ and ‘Listnr Crime Insiders’ and featured in the Courier Mail’s Q-Weekend magazine as an emerging Queensland author. He co-hosts the Genre Fiction Podcast.
