Alana Hicks
Alana Hicks is an award-winning writer and director whose work spans film, television, and immersive media. Originally from Papua New Guinea and now based in Australia, she tells bold, heartfelt stories that explore culture, identity, and belonging, often with humour and emotional depth. In 2024 she directed _Project Tightrope _for the Australian Museum, a large-scale international collaboration blending narrative and documentary to examine climate change in the Pacific. That same year she co-created a VR experience for the Department of Communities and Justice exploring empathy and inclusion in the workplace. She recently directed an SBS Digital Original series MONI, which premiered in 2025. Her earlier works include Pasifika Drift (SXSW Sydney, Māoriland, imagineNATIVE) and the AACTA-nominated short film Chicken, which won Best Director at Flickerfest. She has also directed for _PM’s Daughter _(ABC) and served as second unit director on _Frayed _(Foxtel/ABC). Most recently, Alana was awarded the prestigious American Australian Association - Australian International Screen Forum Directing Scholarship (2025–26), supporting the development of her debut feature Breaking of Charity.
