Step into a unique cinematic experience at the AACTA Festival Hub, where the essence of Queensland's past is vividly brought to life. Projected on the expansive walls of the HOTA lobby, a selection of home movies from the mid-20th century invites festivalgoers to witness a bygone era. These films, ranging from joyous family holidays to everyday moments in backyards, offer an intimate glimpse into our past.

The revolution of affordable, portable handheld movie cameras in the 1940s transformed personal storytelling. No longer a luxury, these cameras chronicled the ordinary and extraordinary aspects of daily life, becoming a staple in many households. The State Library of Queensland's dedication to preserving these recordings elevates them from mere historical remnants to invaluable storytellers for future generations. These films provide a window into the passage of time and the lives of the people who lived it.

As you meander through the festival, take a moment to immerse yourself in this nostalgic journey. This retrospective is not just a viewing experience but an invitation to connect with the past, understand the present, and draw inspiration for the future.

Join us in celebrating and preserving Queensland's rich cultural heritage, as we rediscover the world through the lenses of those who came before us.
