Meet the Streamers: Shaping the Future of Australian Content

1:00 pm

As cultural and economic ties between Australia and India strengthen, the film industries of both nations are poised for an unprecedented era of collaborative storytelling.

With the Indian diaspora comprising over 3% of Australia's population and now the second largest after the British, the influence on Australia's cultural and cinematic landscape is profound. Indian films alone contribute over 20% to the Australian box office, signalling a vibrant market ripe for exploration. Thanks to a robust co-production treaty an unprecedented number of collaborative projects are underway, with more than $93 million invested in diverse, Australian-Indian stories—most backed by development funds from screen agencies. This is a golden era for creating shared narratives that resonate across both nations.

Join filmmaker Anupam Sharma, CEO of Dendy Cinemas and Icon Films Sharon Strickland, investor and producer Pradnya Duggal, and writer/producer Richard Jameson, who has penned the first Aboriginal-Indian film. This panel will provide invaluable insights into the future of film ties between Australia and India, covering production, development, distribution, and investment.

Indian Consul General (Brisbane) Her Excellency Ms. Bhaagotia will be there to grace the occasion and provide opening remarks.

This session is essential for industry professionals, including crew members, investors, and anyone keen on tapping into this booming niche market.
