Marcus Oborn
Marcus is a Patsy Rodenburg Associate, the second Australian and the first in Queensland to be certified to teach Rodenburg voice and text since 2022. To support his training as a Patsy Rodenburg Associate, Marcus received a prestigious grant from the Australian Council for the Arts Individuals Fund in 2019.
Marcus graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (UniSQ, 2013), and has since undertaken professional developments with Patsy Rodenburg OBE, Holllywood acting coach Larry Moss, and British theatre stalwart Mike Alfreds.
He currently coordinates the voice program in the Bachelor of Theatre (UniSQ) and the Bachelor of Stage & Screen (APAC), and teaches voice, presence and rhetoric to lawyers in the School of Law & Justice (UniSQ). As a freelance vocal coach, Marcus has an international clientele of artistic, education, legal and corporate professionals.
He was vocal coach for the world premiere of DEAR BROTHER directed by Isaac Drandic for Queensland Theatre, BlakDance, and Brisbane Festival, and has also coached award nominated and winning productions for Pip Theatre, AdAstra, UniSQ, APAC, and QACI. He will complete his doctorate in Shakespeare, rhetoric, and voice by the end of 2025.
He has appeared on stage and screen for Disney, Stan, Amazon, NBC, Opera Queensland, Queensland Music Festival, Metro Arts, Big Scary Animal, Hive, and more, and has provided voice overs for iconic national and international brands for more than a decade. He has directed a string of successful independent theatre productions, including MOTH by Declan Greene, the Australian premiere of Buckets by Adam Barnard, The Mercy Seat by Neil LaBute, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Oedipus by Sophocles, and Medea by Euripides
